PetroFLAG analyzer system for TPH in soil

PetroFLAG analyzer system for TPH in soil

It measures TPH (total petroleum hydrocarbon) in soil.

It does not distinguish between aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, but rather quantifies all fuels, oils, and fats as total hydrocarbons.

Description

Características

By choosing the correct response factor for the desired analyte, the calibration curve is adjusted to that specific analyte for a more accurate measurement.

Petroflag analyser kit

The PetroFLAG analyser is a lightweight and robust portable unit that is powered by a 9-volt battery. 4,000 tests can be performed with a single alkaline battery. It is managed through a menu for ease of use and uses an EEPROM memory system. The analyser incorporates fifteen response factors depending on the analyte of interest. The response factors are correlated with fuels ranging from light gasoline to heavy crude oil. Results are displayed in ppm on an LCD screen.

The lower limit of detection for most hydrocarbons is 20 ppm, except for aged gasoline which has an LLD of 1,000 ppm. Using the standard 10-gram sample, the analyser has the ability to quantify all hydrocarbons up to 2,000 ppm. The quantification of hydrocarbons above 2,000 ppm requires an additional step using PetroFLAG’s high-range reagents; or the analyst can reduce the sample size and multiply the results by the appropriate factor.

The PetroFlag analyser comes complete with a timer, electronic balance, a set of calibration standards, ten tests, and a carrying case.

Reagents

PetroFLAG reagents are packaged in ten tests per box. Also included in each box is a set of calibration solutions; a standard of “zero” and 1000 ppm. The box is designed to fit directly into a space provided in the field carrying case for convenient replacement of used reagents. All reagents are pre-dosed and sealed in vials of

glass to ensure quality control. PetroFLAG reagents consist of proprietary formulations that are safe and easy to dispose of as normal laboratory waste.

High-range reagents

The high-range reagents are an extension of the PetroFLAG standard reagents. The new

procedure consists of a soil extraction using the high-range extraction solvent, then a 10: 1 dilution in PetroFLAG standard solvent, followed by the usual analysis. The linear range for response factor 5 would be 150 ppm to 20,000 ppm using a 10-gram sample and 15,000 ppm to 200,000 ppm for a 1 gram sample. All reagents are chlorine free and can be disposed of in normal laboratory waste.

Funcionamiento

An analysis of 10gr of sample is carried out in just three steps:

Extraction, filtration and analysis.

It is quick and easy to calibrate using a reagent extract such as 0 (zero) and a standard hydrocarbon 1000ppm. The display guides the user through the calibration steps. A set of 10 standard calibrations comes in the case.
