Emitter oxigen diffuser

Emitter oxigen diffuser

The Emitter is a simple, low-cost device to allow the controlled and uniform release of oxygen or other bioremediators to promote and maintain the growth of macro-organisms required for bioremediation of contaminated groundwater.

Description

Características

This technology allows the direct diffusion of oxygen into an aquifer through pressurized low-density polyethylene or silicone hose. The continuous and consistent release of oxygen to the hose creates the ideal concentration gradient in this passive system without creating oxygen bubbles.

Emitters are ideal for the bioremediation of BTEX and MTBE using oxygen. The diffusion process provides bioavailability of molecular oxygen to enhance aerobic biodegradation without loss of correction gaseous addition due to bubbling. Emitter can also promote abiotic reactions (adjustments in pH and hydrolysis, etc.)

The Waterloo Emitters are available for use in 2 “, 4” and 6 “wells (50mm, 100mm and 150m). They can be installed in holes or wells or permanently with sand seals in holes or trenches. The Emitter 51 “(130cm) can be installed individually or also installed one on top of the other, to give complete coverage of the underground polluting plume. They are also effective in horizontal applications.

Because no minimum head of water is required above, the emitters are effective at any depth under water. When used in combination with shutters or circulating water pumps, the radius of influence is increased.

Emitter Waterloo’s unique diffusion technology allows the use of almost any chemical to treat contaminated water. The PVC frame allows the insertion of monitoring or sampling instrumentation to observe groundwater conditions during the remediation process.

Funcionamiento

The Waterloo Emitter consists of a silicone tubing threaded around a PVC frame. When a fluid enters the pipe, a concentration gradient is created between the inside of the pipe and the groundwater.

The Emitter works according to Fick’s law, whereby diffusion will occur until there is equilibrium in chemical concentration inside and outside the pipe. With Emitter technology, oxygen (or other product) is continually renewed, and as groundwater flows around the Emitter, no equilibrium point is created within the hose resulting in continuous diffusion into the groundwater.

When a gas is applied to the Emitter there is a direct correlation between an increase in the pressure that is applied and the increase in the amount of gas that will diffuse into the groundwater, however, diffusion is the only mechanism that allows the product to be added to groundwater.

If a gas is to be used to enhance the remediation, a small or medium gas cylinder can be used. The pressure is set according to the amount of enhancement gas required. A single cylinder can be used to supply multiple emitters connected in series.

Replenishment of the gas inside the Emitter can be accommodated by doing periodic purges (weekly / bi-weekly) or a needle valve can be incorporated into the system to allow a slow flow and thus there will be a constant replenishment to the Emitters.

Aplicaciones

  • Oxygen emission for aerobic bioremediation of BTEX and MTBE.
  • Hydrogen emission for anaerobic reduction of solvent dechlorination.
  • Introduction of dissolved SF6, argon, etc. as tracer agents.
  • CO2 emission to make pH adjustments.
  • Emission of light alkanes to promote cometabolic biodegradation of MTBE.
  • Migratory barrier of the polluting plume, primary remediation device or refinement.
