Levelogger 5

Levelogger 5

The Levelogger 5 records highly accurate groundwater and surface water level and temperature measurements. It combines a pressure sensor, temperature detector, 10-year lithium battery, and datalogger, sealed within a 22 mm x 160 mm (7/8″ x 6.3″) stainless steel housing with a corrosion-resistant coating baked-on using polymerization technology.

Description

Características

The Levelogger 5 measures absolute pressure using a Hastelloy® pressure sensor, which offers high resolution and an accuracy of 0.05% FS. Readings are stable under extreme pressure and temperature conditions. The Hastelloy sensor can withstand overpressures twice the rated pressure without causing permanent damage. Combined with the durable coating inside and out, the Levelogger 5 has high resistance to corrosion and abrasion in harsh environments.

The Levelogger 5 uses a Faraday cage design, which protects it against power surges or electrical spikes caused by lightning or pumping equipment. Its durable, low-maintenance design, high accuracy, and stability make the Levelogger 5 the most reliable instrument for continuous, long-term water level recording.

Enhanced Features

Greater stability for communication: single-eye optical interface, easier to clean, more scratch-resistant.
Greater memory capacity: 150,000 data sets.
Stronger and more robust design: double O-rings for greater leak protection.
Improved thermistor sensitivity: improved platinum RTD.
Superior protection in harsh environments: corrosion- and abrasion-resistant coating inside and outside the Levelogger body.
Improved Levelogger Software: improved diagnostic utility for “self-tests” for the proactive user.

The Levelogger 5 features a smooth, single-eye optical interface, allowing for easy cleaning and faster, more reliable communication. With a Solinst USB device, including the new Field Reader 5 and Levelogger PC software, programming and data download speeds are 57,600 bps.

Funcionamiento

Flexible Communication

Levelogger software is streamlined, making it easy to program dataloggers and view and compensate data in the office or in the field. Data compensation is simplified; multiple data files can be barometrically compensated at once.

The Levelogger 5 App Interface allows communication with your Leveloggers in the field via a Bluetooth® connection between your Leveloggers and the Solinst App on your smart device (phone or tablet). Also available is the DataGrabber 5, a USB data transfer unit for use in the field.

Remote monitoring options include the LevelSender 5, a simple and compact device that fits neatly into a 2″ diameter well; the STS 5 telemetry system and the RRL 5 Remote Radio Link are also available. Additionally, Levelogger 5 series data loggers are SDI-12 compatible.

Levelogger Programming

Levelogger programming is extremely intuitive. Simply connect it to a PC using an optical reader (Desktop Reader 5 or Field Reader 5) or a PC interface cable. Use a single screen to complete your project information and select the sampling rate. Configuration templates can be saved for later reuse.

The Levelogger clock can be synchronized with the computer’s clock. There are also options to start immediately or start and stop the Levelogger at a later time. The battery life percentage and the amount of free memory are also indicated on the startup screen.

Leveloggers can also be programmed with the sampling or data logging method, as well as with the options to start and stop at a later time, using the Solinst Levelogger App on your smart device.

Downloading, Viewing, and Exporting Data

Data is downloaded to the PC by clicking the icon on the main screen. There are multiple options for downloading data, including “Append Data” and “All Data.” The software also allows you to view data in graph or chart format using the “Real-Time View” option.

Level data is automatically temperature-compensated, and the temperature data is also downloaded. Barometric compensation of Levelogger data is performed in the Data Wizard, where you can also use manual data adjustment options, including elevation, density, and barometric efficiency adjustment.

The software allows easy export of data to spreadsheets or databases for further processing by the user.

The Levelogger Solinst App also allows you to view and save data in “real-time” or store it directly on your smart device.

Aplicaciones

  • Aquifer characterization: pumping tests, slug tests, etc.
  • Monitoring of watersheds, recharge and discharge zones, and aquifer storage.
  • Gauging of streams, lakes, and reservoir management.
  • Measuring tidal fluctuations.
  • Monitoring wetlands and peak runoff from heavy rainfall.
  • Water supply and tank levels.
  • Management of mine water and landfill leachate.
  • Long-term monitoring of wells, surface water bodies, and coastal environments.

Ventajas

The Levelogger 5 measures absolute pressure (water pressure + atmospheric pressure) expressed in feet, meters, centimeters, psi, kPa, or bar.

The most accurate method for measuring water level changes is to compensate for atmospheric pressure fluctuations using a Barologger 5, saving time in the compensation process.

The Barologger 5 is placed above the highest water level at a specific location. One Barologger can be used to compensate all Leveloggers installed within a 30 km (20 mile) radius and/or within a difference of no more than 300 m (1,000 ft) in elevation between them.

The Data Compensation Wizard tool in the Levelogger software automatically compensates the data, synchronizing the data files from the Barologger and the on-site Levelogger.

The Barologger 5 uses pressure algorithms based on air rather than water pressure, providing greater accuracy.

The recorded barometric information can be very useful in helping determine the delayed barometric influence and/or barometric efficiency in the aquifer being monitored.

The Barologger 5 records atmospheric pressure in psi, kPa, or mbar. When compensating submersible sensors such as the Levelogger 5, Edge, Gold, or Junior, the Levelogger software can recognize the Levelogger type and compensate using the same units found in the submersible sensor record (e.g., feet or meters). This makes the Barologger 5 compatible with previous sensor versions.

FAQ

What is the difference between a Levelogger and a Barologger?
A Levelogger measures absolute pressure (water column pressure + barometric pressure) continuously. The Barologger’s functions are similar to those of a Levelogger, but it is used at the water’s surface, recording atmospheric pressure so that the data recorded by a Levelogger is barometrically accurate. The latter can compensate all Leveloggers within a 30 km radius, with elevation variations of less than 300 m.

How to select the correct Levelogger pressure range?
The choice of pressure range depends largely on the desired water level and depth. However, the selection should be based on the maximum water level fluctuation.
