Potassium Permanganate
Potassium Permanganate
Potassium Permanganate (KMnO₄), a powerful oxidant for water treatment, odor control, disinfection, and removal of iron and manganese.
Potassium Permanganate (KMnO₄) is a strong oxidizing agent and reactive chemical widely used in industrial, environmental, and water treatment applications. Due to its ability to oxidize organic matter, iron, manganese, and sulfur compounds, it is a key tool in water purification, odor control, and disinfection, as well as in laboratory processes and analytical chemistry.
It generally appears in dark violet crystals or granular powder, with high solubility in water and easy controlled dosing. It is especially valued for its efficiency and speed in oxidation reactions, storage stability, and versatility in various industries and environmental applications.
Potassium Permanganate is used by drinking and wastewater treatment companies, mining, chemical and environmental industries, as well as in laboratories and contaminated water remediation projects.

- Chemical and educational laboratories — oxidation reactions and controlled experiments
Potassium Permanganate (KMnO₄) acts as a strong oxidizer: when dissolved in water, it releases MnO₄⁻ ions that react with reduced compounds present in the solution, transforming ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) into ferric iron (Fe³⁺), manganese (Mn²⁺) into Mn⁴⁺, and eliminating organic compounds through oxidation.
In water treatment applications, the product is carefully dosed to achieve the complete oxidation of contaminants, forming precipitates that are subsequently filtered or decanted, while the excess KMnO₄ is reduced to insoluble manganese dioxide (MnO₂) which is removed by sedimentation.
Its effectiveness depends on parameters such as pH, temperature, contact time, and concentration, so it is important to follow safe dosing and handling protocols.
- Powerful and fast oxidant for water treatment processes
- Removes iron, manganese, and organic matter
- Reduces unpleasant odors in water and effluents
- Easy to use and dose according to process needs
- Versatile for industrial, environmental, and laboratory applications
