Niskin bottles are high-precision water sampling instruments, widely used in hydrogeology, oceanography, and environmental studies. They are designed to collect discrete water samples at various depths without cross-contamination, ensuring sample integrity for physicochemical and biological analyses.

Made from corrosion-resistant materials and safe for water contact, Niskin bottles are ideal for wells, lakes, rivers, oceans, and field laboratories, allowing the collection of representative samples quickly and reliably, optimizing sampling campaigns in challenging environments.

  • Material:  PVC
  • Application: wells, piezometers, rivers, lakes, oceans
  • Design: robust, portable and easy to handle
  • Sample integrity: prevents cross-contamination
  • Compatibility: manual or automated sampling systems
  • Hydrogeological and environmental studies
  • Surface and groundwater monitoring
  • Oceanographic and limnological research
  • Water quality control and laboratory analysis
  • Remediation projects and environmental monitoring

.

Niskin bottles operate a controlled opening and closing system, which allows for the precise collection of water at a specific depth:

Bottle Preparation

  • Set the bottle with the top and bottom stoppers closed.
  • Secure the release or closing mechanism according to the model.

Descent to Sampling Point

  • Lower the bottle into the water using a graduated rope, cable, or automated system.
  • Keep the bottle closed until the desired depth is reached.

Sample Collection

  • Activate the opening mechanism (manual or remote) to capture water at the specific depth.
  • The top and bottom stoppers automatically close to isolate the sample and prevent contamination.

Recovery and Extraction

  • Remove the bottle from the water.
  • Take out the sample for physico-chemical, biological, or microbiological analysis.

This operation ensures representative and contamination-free samples, optimizing the reliability of subsequent analyses.

  • Collect clean and discrete samples at various depths
  • Materials resistant to corrosion and heavy use
  • Prevent cross-contamination between samples
  • Portable and easy to handle in the field
  • Compatible with manual or automated sampling
