The AMS 445.10 Bottom Dredge is a Van Veen or Bottom Dredge type sediment sampler designed for collecting sediment samples from beds in aquatic environments, such as rivers, lakes, ponds, and shallow coastal areas.

Manufactured with corrosion-resistant stainless steel, this 15-pound (≈6 kg) dredge offers durability and reliability in environmental sampling operations and sediment studies.

Its design incorporates a spring-release mechanism that activates upon contact with the bottom, automatically closing the "jaws" to retain the sediment material inside. Additionally, the top of the sampling chamber is meshed to allow water passage during descent, reducing sediment disruption and improving sample representativeness.

This equipment is ideal for environmental assessments, sediment quality studies, aquatic bed research, and routine sampling in marine or freshwater science projects, providing reliable data with simple and efficient sampling.

  • Sampler Type: Van Veen type bottom dredge/Bottom Dredge.
  • Material: stainless steel and carbon steel with coating for corrosion resistance.
  • Sampling area: jaw opening ~6” x 6” (≈15 x 15 cm), ≈36 in².
  • Mechanism: self-closing spring upon contact with the bottom.
  • Superior mesh design: allows water passage during descent to reduce sediment disturbance.
  • Weight: 15 pounds / ≈6 kg, suitable for sampling from small boats or platforms.
  • Bottom sediment sampling for physical, chemical, and biological analysis.
  • Environmental studies of water quality and pollutants in sediments.
  • Sediment profile evaluations for hydrological or geomorphological projects.
  • Regular monitoring of aquatic zones in environmental management plans.

Replacement parts:

  • (1) Lower dredge lock pin assembly with stainless steel spring

Accessories:

  • (1) 1/4" x 100' nylon rope

It is carefully lowered to the bottom of the water body using a suitable cable or rope. Upon impacting the sediment, its weight and design allow for the effective capture of the bottom material.

Once the sample is closed and secured, the dredge is carefully retrieved to avoid losses, allowing the sediment to be transferred to the analysis container in a safe and representative manner.

Representative Samples

Thanks to its automatic closure design and mesh chamber for water passage, it captures sediments with minimal disturbance, providing samples that accurately reflect the profile of the sampled seabed.

Robust Construction

The high-strength stainless steel construction allows for prolonged use in aquatic environments without rapid degradation from corrosion or wear.

Easy Operation

Its spring mechanism simplifies sampling: simply lower the dredge to the bottom and, upon touching the sediment, the dredge automatically closes to retain the material.

Versatile in Aquatic Environments

Ideal for sediment sampling in freshwater or brackish water from rivers, lakes, ponds, and shallow coastal areas, useful in environmental research and monitoring the quality of the sedimentary bed.
